Due to a massive early snowfall, Manitoba’s premier, Brian Pallister, declared a state of emergency. According to CTV News, 21,000 Manitoba homes and businesses were without power as of Oct. 14, 2019 (Lambert, 2019). A storm with heavy and wet snow hit the province beginning on Thurs., Oct. 10, continuing into Fri., Oct. 11, 2019. Many residents bundled up, found places to keep perishable foods and assisted with cleanup the damaged trees.
The Manitoba government is also warning residents that the rivers have the potential to rise due to high precipitation. The government will continue to monitor the levels as the snow melts.
During this state of emergency, the province of Manitoba would have utilized its emergency response plan and crisis communications to mitigate the issue at hand.
